Computer Needs

The computer needs and equipment required for online schools are usually very basic and can vary depending on the online courses you are taking.   In general your computer requirements and other needs are the following:

• Reliable computer, preferably made within the last 3 years
• High speed internet connection
• Email address

Some courses may require additional equipment and the technical requirements will specified by the online school program.  Some training courses are distributed on DVD, and you will need a DVD player. Now that online education is more mainstream, school help desks are typically very good at helping you get setup and are there to help you.

Free Online Access

• Many local libraries have computers and high speed internet that you can use for free.
• If you do not have basic computer skills, public libraries typically have free introductory computer courses that will teach you the basics to get you started.
• Google, Hotmail and Yahoo allow you to setup free email accounts that you can use for class communication.
